There is no difference in the work. A blowout and a blow dry are the same service: the hair is dried and shaped with a brush and a dryer, section by section, into a finished style. Blow dry is the British word and blowout the American one. In Dubai both are in daily use, often by the same client in the same message.
Why there are two words
In British salons the service has long been called a blow dry. In American salons, and in the blow-dry bars that spread from the United States, it is called a blowout. The words travel with the people who use them, and a city where half the clients learnt their salon vocabulary in London and the other half in New York ends up with both.
So a booking can arrive as either. The appointment that follows is the same one.
What the work actually is
Under either name, the work is not simply drying the hair. It is building shape: smoothing the cuticle, lifting at the roots where lift is wanted, and removing it where it is not.
It starts with product, usually heat protection and something for hold, then works section by section until the shape is set, with a cool shot at the end of each pass to fix it. Most take thirty to forty-five minutes, longer for thicker hair and longer again for a more structured finish.
What does change: the finish
When clients sense a difference between a blow dry and a blowout, they are usually describing two different finishes rather than two different services. Some picture a quick, smooth dry. Others picture something fuller, with bend and movement through the lengths.
Both are blowouts, and so are the others. The sleek finish, smooth with the cuticle closed flat. Soft waves, the most-booked, loose and deliberate. Volume at the root, for fine hair that falls flat by midday. Hollywood waves, the formal version, with a deep side parting and a structured bend.

Not the same as a Brazilian blowout
The one real confusion is with the Brazilian blowout. That is a chemical smoothing treatment, applied in a salon and designed to last for weeks. It shares a word with the styling appointment and nothing else.
A styling blowout uses heat, a brush and finishing product. Nothing about the hair changes chemically, and the set lasts for days rather than weeks. In Dubai that is three to four days with the right routine, which is covered in how long a blowout lasts.
A salon chair, or at home
The difference that does change the experience is where it happens. At a salon or a blow-dry bar, you travel to the chair, and the set is finished before you head out into the heat again.
Mine is mobile. The kit travels to your home anywhere in Dubai, a hotel suite, or wherever the day starts, and the finish is chosen for the room you are walking into. The hair is done at a dresser or a kitchen island, wherever the light reads best, and it leaves when you do.
What to ask for when you book
Call it whichever you like. What helps is the finish you picture, and a photograph is worth more than any description of it. Then the occasion, the time you need to leave, and where you will be.
Say too whether the set needs to last beyond the evening. A blowout for one dinner and a blowout for a weekend are built differently, and knowing which it is changes the work from the first section.
